What is MonWHO?
The International Federation of Medical Students Association Quebec Chapter, in conjunction with the International Relations Students' Association of McGill are proud to host the third annual World Health Organization Simulation (MonWHO), from March 6th–8th, 2009 in Montréal, Quebec. Attracting students from the fields of health care, political science and international development from universities and colleges all over North America, the aim of MonWHO is to raise political awareness and involvement around issues of global health. Furthermore, the conference hopes to:
- Develop interprofessional relations amongst all students interested in global health.
- Inform and raise awareness about global health issues.
- Provide a means for students to gain awareness of the proactive role they can have in international health policy.
- Acquaint students with the role of the WHO in global health issues.
- Provide exposure to the political and economic forces at play in the decision making process of the WHO.
- Develop policy statements and contribute to the local, national and international discussions on global health policy.
The International Relations Student Association of McGill is one of the largest and oldest clubs at McGill University. With approximately 200 members, IRSAM has earned recognition as club of the year, president of the year, and event of the year. IRSAM provides students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds with the opportunity to engage in various components of the UN and various aspects in the field of International Relations. The International Federation of Medical Students Association is an independent federation of medical students' associations, with over one hundred national member organizations throughout the world. The IFMSA-Québec chapter was founded in August 2004 and is a member of the IFMSA. IFMSA-Québec is committed to introducing medical students to pertinent issues in global health as well as promoting awareness on social inequality and cultural diversity.
